We are bridging the gap between the physical farm and the digital world, bringing the “Industry 4.0” revolution to agriculture. By unifying information data (IT) with operational farming technologies (OT), we are creating a seamless, connected ecosystem that optimizes every stage of food production.
Our research focuses on four key pillars:
-
Cultivation: We are automating the growing process for high-value crops like mushrooms and medicinal herbs using smart sensors and robots. We are also developing full-body exoskeletons to reduce physical strain and support the daily well-being of agricultural workers.
-
Maintenance & Operation: We are deploying smart, autonomous systems across challenging terrains—from drones mapping soil health from the sky, to self-driving rovers precisely spraying crops, and even aquatic robots supporting sustainable offshore ocean farming.
-
Harvesting & Post-Processing: We are building collaborative robots (cobots) capable of navigating complex tree canopies to gently pick delicate fruits only when they are perfectly ripe. By integrating this harvesting data, we can guarantee complete produce traceability from the tree to the consumer’s table.
-
Communities: Technology is only as good as the people who use it. We are working directly with local growers, training the next generation of agricultural workers, and co-designing solutions to ensure Australian farming remains resilient and future ready.
